As former staff-photographer of the historic VOC ship Batavia -in Holland and later in Sydney- I learned a lot about historic ships and the artists painting them. To me Peter stands at the same level as the Dutch maritime painters like the Willem van de Veldes.
Just an amazing talent like very few others.
thanks for sharing his works here.

We purchased Sternkenburg's "Harbor at Sunset, Stitson" at New Masters Gallery in Carmel by the Sea, California when the artist was 23-24. It has been an object of admiration by family and friends all these years. We just learned of his untimely death. He may have left us but his art will live forever. Congratulations in keeping the flame alive. Regards.

Hello,

My parents gave me a Sterkenburg painting for my 16th birthday. Although, now I think that was just an excuse for my father to purchase it! My father passed away in 1999, and I now have a family of my own. For years, I felt the need to protect the painting, especially with two young kids in the house, so I sadly hung it in a back room where no one saw it. However, now that my kids are older, I've moved the painting to our entry so that everyone sees it upon entering our home. It's a lovely painting called "Boats at Sunset", and I feel much better now that it is being seen.

I am one of the fortunate to have met personally PETER when he visited HK the first time During that visit I had invited Peter and Ton for a tour of the hk harbour on my Company yacht.I
He was so excited to be on board of a boat and taking photos of the surroundings which would eventually inspire some of his paintings !
I say to PETER , goodmorning every day...since I have at home the SHEKO GOLF CLUB View from the 6th Tee!!!Painted in 1993 !
I am sure HE is painting now many angels navigating in the Heavens skies !
Ciao Peter , those lucky ones who knew You ...66379are missing You!

Peter was a brilliant maritime artist of great talent and was very sadly taken away from us far too soon. As a fellow artist I have learnt much from studying Peter's work. It is marvellous that there is a web site dedicated to Peter's paintings.
